Draft, pending legal review

This notice has not yet been reviewed by qualified lawyers in every market it applies to. It describes what we actually do, in plain language, and we intend it to be accurate — but until it has been through legal review it should not be relied on as the final, binding version. We will remove this banner when it has, and we will keep the change history.

Accessibility statement

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Here is where we meet it, where we know we do not, and how to tell us about something we have missed.

Applies in: UKUK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018

Conformance status

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means most of the site meets the standard and some parts do not. We have listed the parts that do not below, rather than claiming full conformance and waiting to be corrected.

This statement covers https://longlifelist.com and applies to the market you are currently reading, including its reading direction and language.

What we have built in

  • Every page has one h1 and a heading structure that matches the visible outline.
  • Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator that meets the 2.2 focus-appearance criterion.
  • Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 CSS pixels, which is stricter than the 24-pixel WCAG 2.2 minimum.
  • No information is carried by colour alone. Evidence grades in particular carry a letter, a text label and a colour, so removing any one still leaves the grade readable.
  • Form fields have real labels, errors are announced through a live region and associated with the field they belong to, and an error summary at the top of a form links to each problem.
  • Calculators work with JavaScript disabled. They are plain form submissions computed on the server.
  • Data tables have captions and scoped headers, and any table that can overflow is inside a keyboard-reachable scroll region.
  • Right-to-left markets render the same DOM with logical properties, so Arabic is not a separate, worse layout.
  • Motion respects prefers-reduced-motion, and there is no autoplaying media anywhere.
  • Text can be zoomed to 200% and reflowed to 320 pixels wide without loss of content or function.

Known issues we have not fixed yet

These are real, current, and the honest reason each one is unfixed is included.

  • The clinic map. The interactive map is not fully operable by keyboard and its markers are not individually reachable. Every map has a complete list view immediately below it with the same clinics, the same order and the same links, which is the accessible path — but the map itself is a gap, not an alternative.
  • Minimum target width. Our 44-pixel target rule is currently guaranteed on the vertical axis by a design token and on the horizontal axis by padding at each call site. A few dense controls may therefore be narrower than 44 pixels. The token for the inline axis is not in the design system yet.
  • Uploaded lab PDFs. Documents you upload are shown as you supplied them. If a lab issued an untagged or scanned PDF, it is not accessible, and we cannot fix someone else’s document. We extract the values into accessible tables where we can parse them.
  • Charts. Trend charts have a text summary and an accessible data table, but they are not yet navigable point-by-point with a screen reader.
  • Translated content. Where a page has not yet been translated for your market it falls back to English, which means a screen reader may announce it in the wrong language for part of the page.

How we test

  • Automated axe checks on every pull request, on a representative set of pages including a calculator, a graded content page, the directory and a legal page. A new violation fails the build.
  • Keyboard-only walkthrough of every new interactive component before it ships.
  • Manual screen reader testing with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and NVDA on Windows.
  • Zoom to 200% and a 320-pixel viewport on every template.
  • Automated checks cannot find most real barriers. We know the manual coverage is the weaker half and we are expanding it.

Tell us about a barrier

Email hello@longlifelist.com with the page and what went wrong, or use the contact page. We aim to acknowledge within two working days and to tell you a fix date, or why there is not one, within ten.

If we do not respond adequately, you can escalate: residents of the EU and UK can complain to their national equality or accessibility body, and US residents can file a complaint under the ADA with the Department of Justice. We would much rather you told us first and we fixed it.

Questions about this notice go to the routes on the contact page, which lists the specific address for privacy, security, editorial and clinic matters rather than a single inbox that everything disappears into.
