What actually changes
The menopausal transition is the largest sex-specific event in adult physiology
It reshapes lipid profile, bone turnover, body composition, sleep and vasomotor regulation over a few years. It is also the point where cardiovascular risk begins converging with men. Treating the symptoms and treating the trajectory are different decisions, and both are genuinely clinical.
Cardiovascular disease presents later and differently, and is under-diagnosed
Onset is roughly a decade later on average, presentation is more often non-classical, and women are less likely to be investigated for the same symptoms. That is a diagnostic-pathway problem, not a biological one, and knowing it is the useful part.
Iron status and bone density both need watching, at different life stages
Iron deficiency is common while menstruating and often normalises afterwards; bone loss accelerates around and after menopause. The marker that matters changes with life stage rather than with age alone.
The evidence base is thinner, and that is not a rhetorical point
Women have historically been under-enrolled in trials, and many trials that do enrol them never report results stratified by sex. When we grade an intervention on a mixed-sex trial with no stratified analysis, the grade is an average that may not describe either sex well. We flag it where we know it applies.
Interventions graded in this group
Nothing in our catalogue carries a grade whose population names this group specifically. That is worth stating plainly rather than filling the space: what we have is evidence in mixed populations, and applying it here is an assumption.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding change what is safe far more than most pages acknowledge. Almost nothing on this site has been tested in pregnancy, and "no evidence of harm" for an untested compound means no evidence, not no harm.
Which tests matter, and when
Assay timing matters more here than in any other segment: sex hormones vary across the cycle, and a result without a cycle day attached is close to uninterpretable. Ferritin while menstruating, bone density around the transition, and lipids repeated after it rather than only before.
No marker in our catalogue has a reference range sliced specifically for this group, so the general ranges apply. See the full range table.
